Brief History of the School

The inception of Hermon English School was laid by the Local Church of Bungmual with the objective of ensuring the physical and spiritual development of a child after Evangelical Baptist Headquarter erstwhile Evangelical Convention Church (ECC) decided to downsize/ close down several mission schools with the goal of depending on the government run schools wherever feasible. Bungmual JB School the only School in the locality runned by the Headquarter was in the list of the Schools to be effected by the decision. To bridge the learning gap that could result in its closure, the Church Elders Committee, Bungmual decided to establish one English Medium School. Subsequently School Board/Committee was formed on 25th January, 1983 (Tuesday). Its first meeting was conducted at the residence of Pa L. Thangkhanchin. As per the resolution no. 10 dated 25th January, 1983 it was decided to rename Bungmual JB School as Hermon Christian School. Office bearer and Committee Members were also formed on the same day as per the list given below.

Admission process was started on 12th February, 1983, and on 20th February 1983 it was officially inaugurated by Rev. T. Jamkhothang. Miss Donzachiin was appointed as the Headmistress by the School board along with the following list of founding teachers.

Change In School Name

The School board on 1st July, 1984 resolved to change Hermon Christian School to Hermon English School (Vide Rsln. No. III dated 1st July, 1984). Accordingly, School Managing Committee pursued the matter with the State Government and on 12th October, 1984 the name of the School which was as per Government record Bungmual JB School was changed to Hermon English School (Vide order No. 4/7/82-SE(S) dated 12th October, 1984).

Location

The temporary site of the school was at the premises of the Local Church. Later on, it was shifted to its permanent site with the effort of the Field Construction Committee. The new School Building at the permanent site was inaugurated on 22nd March, 19889 by Rev. T. Jamkhothang.
